Wed 7th Nov 2018 : Poignant Poppies for Remembrance Day
Our pupils have been very busy creating a poppy display to commemorate Remembrance Day and the centenary of WWI.
The children transformed the ends of recycled plastic bottles into beautiful red poppies which were then attached to the hedge outside the school on the Frant Road to create a stunning and poignant display.
The local community have clearly been enjoying the display with many toots of approval being heard as drivers pass the school!
More of the pupils' hand-made poppies, made out of felt and crepe paper, are on display in the school's front reception area.
The project organiser, Mrs Debbie Latty, Head of Art at The Mead School, said: "The children have thoroughly enjoyed creating the poppies for our display. It has been a good way of encouraging them to think about Remembrance Day and the WWI centenary and the importance of the occasion. I'm absolutely delighted with the finished result which can be enjoyed by the whole school and the local community."
We're very much looking forward to welcoming Flight Lieutenant Colin Bell, who served as a bomber pilot in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War along with Sam Westlake, former Second Lieutenant for the Parachute Regiment, to our assembly on Friday. The gentlemen will be talking to the children about their experiences as part of our commemoration of Armistice Day.
