Wed 13th Mar 2019 : Artistic Lesson on the Power of Positivity for Kindy
Our Kindergarten children tried out a rather unique method of painting recently and learnt an important message about the power of having a positive attitude.
Inspired by the world-renowned artist Tom Yendell, who paints using different parts of his body, the children had a go at creating their own artwork - using only their feet!
Mrs Jane Ovenden, Kindergarten teacher, had talked to the children in their circle time about how some people are able to overcome enormous difficulties in their life through sheer determination and a positive attitude. She described how artist Tom Yendell who was born without arms has produced hundreds of beautiful pieces of art by painting with his lips, tongue, teeth, head and feet. Mrs Ovenden showed them some examples of his amazing work and the children decided they'd like to have a go themselves!
Mrs Ovenden said: " I was so impressed at how well the children were able to hold a paint brush between their toes! They had huge concentration as they negotiated putting the brush into the paint and then onto the paper. They had such a great attitude towards giving this activity a go and to keep on trying. I did observe a few toes dipping into paint after a while as they couldn't resist feeling it again with their feet, but not before they had all had a real good go at trying first."
A fun and creative session for the children teaching them one of the key messages in our school ethos - if you have a positive, can-do 'growth mindset' you can achieve incredible things.
What a fantastic artistic 'feet'!
